Description:

Today we are joined by Kendra Gliem as we discuss role play, character building, and story-telling, through theater games, to help teach children diagnosed with Autism.

Theater can help people build a wide variety of skills: empathy, trust building, social skills, creativity, focus and concentration to name a few. Children diagnosed with Autism may have barriers related to some of these areas, but engaging in the world of theater may hold some incredible benefits for skill development

In this episode we discuss:

  • Learning how to teach creative play by utilizing theater games and character building in a drama and play therapy setting

Kendra currently works as a BHIS Supervisor and Provider in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area for Heart and Solutions. Kendra also enjoys being part of the theater community in her area by teaching youth classes at the Black Hawk Community Theater and auditioning for shows when she can. Kendra often utilizes her theater training when working with her clients in order to help them improve their behaviors and become well-rounded individuals. She is thrilled to be joining the podcast once more to talk about her experiences and how it relates to her work with children!
