Heart 100x100 School-Based Services

Bringing Mental Health Support Directly to Students and Schools

At Heart and Solutions, we believe every student deserves easy access to mental health care. Our school-based therapy and BHIS services are designed to meet the needs of students and communities who may have limited access to traditional therapy resources.

How School-Based Therapy Works:

We place a licensed therapist directly within the school setting. This allows students of all ages and with a wide range of diagnoses and struggles to receive therapy in a familiar, convenient environment. Therapists also collaborate with school staff and meet with students’ family members to ensure comprehensive support tailored to each student’s unique needs. Therapy can also be provided to staff members and family members of students within the district.

How School-Based BHIS Works:

All clients that are in BHIS services are approved by insurance for both individual and family time each week. If the client’s family and the school are interested, BHIS providers can see clients for their individual time at school during non-core classes, in a private setting. BHIS family sessions would still be required outside of the school setting, but seeing clients at school can help to work on behaviors the client may be showing at school, can help providers to collaborate with school staff on the clients’ behaviors, and can help decrease scheduling conflicts that may arise with attempting to see both hours with the family after school hours.

Benefits of School-Based Services:

  • Increased Accessibility: Students no longer need to arrange transportation or travel long distances to receive care.
  • Minimal Disruption to Education: Sessions can be scheduled during study halls or non-core classes, minimizing missed instructional time. Most sessions are considered excused absences.
  • Whole-Student Support: Therapists work not just with students, but also with school staff and families to create a strong, consistent support system.
  • Community Impact: By embedding mental health services into schools, we help close the gap for communities that may otherwise struggle to access mental health care.

The Result:

More students receive the support they need, when and where they need it — leading to better academic outcomes, improved emotional wellbeing, and stronger, healthier communities.
