Program Description
Interactively using books in play therapy can be a powerful tool to promote exploration of feelings and life events/situations. In this workshop, learn how to appropriately choose and use books for various topics and areas of mental health.
Learning Objectives
- Interactively use books and discuss 5 or more book examples to use for varying mental health conditions and symptoms.
- Learn at least 10 areas to consider when using books in therapy
- Compare at least 3 pros and cons of using books in therapy

About the Presenter
Theresa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in Trauma and Attachment with individuals and couples in Western Montana. She is an EMDR and EFT practitioner and often facilitates creative activities in sessions. She grew up in a rural Midwestern community where she spent much of her youth involved in Irish Dance, Music, and Equestrian Sports. While earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology/Sociology from Kox College, her professional life began in the equestrian industry as an Instructor. This brought her into the Nonprofit and Social Work sectors. She then earned a MS in Nonprofit Management from Bay Path University followed by a MSW in Social Work from the University of New Hampshire. In addition to her current clinical practice, she has worked professionally with folks experiencing homelessness, with Intellectual Impairment, Physically Disabilities, victims of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, Military Families experiencing domestic violence and Cancer Patients and their Families. Outside of work, she’s heavily involved with a Missoula Irish Dance school and enjoying time with her friends, family and beloved animals.
